Quote of the Day

“Certainly the earliest Brethren in Christ felt called to witness. Although we had no records of the earliest times it seems evident that they shared their faith with those who would hear, especially with those who attended the gatherings of the house churches in areas where the Brethren lived. Here the Word was preached, the Brethren testified to the work of God in their lives, and sinners were converted. And the body grew and spread.”

—Owen H. Alderfer, twentieth-century Brethren in Christ minister, bishop, historian, and theologian, describing the early Brethren in Christ notions of “witness,” in his 1975 book, Called to Obedience.

  1. Hmm. So it wasn’t the kind of music used in the services that drew people to faith and into the Brethren in Christ fold. It was the quality and the content of the message. I would suggest that the same is true today.
