M. J. Heisey spent her first six years of school at the Navajo Brethren in Christ Mission school, a boarding school in New Mexico. Today she lives in New York’s North Country on lands of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and within the cultural orbit of Akwesasne Mohawks.
